On the first few listens, I found the Booker T collaboration with the Drive-By Truckers and Neil Young, Potato Hole, a little heavy on its feet. And it is a little, but not as much as I first thought. Or, the remarkable grace of Booker’s playing means melodies glide, lightening the load even as big, distorted guitars crunch around him. Now, there are a handful of tracks I look forward to including their version of the Truckers’ “Space City,” “Native New Yorker,” and the opener, “Pound it Out.” If their Jazz Fest set doesn’t open with that, something went wrong.
