Irvin Mayfield and the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra will be playing a jazz tribute to rock heroes Led Zeppelin, Queen, and Nirvana at the House of Blues on Thursday, November 13.
Mayfield, a Grammy Award-winning musician, professor, and philanthropist, was appointed by President Obama to the National Council of the Arts in 2010.
His New Orleans Jazz Orchestra is locally and internationally renowned for playing some of the best jazz in the world. They’re also the only performing arts organization dedicated solely to the development of the industry of jazz.
New Orleans-based rock quartet The Breton Sound is slated to open for the evening. The band was co-founded by guitarist and vocalist Jonathan Pretus, formerly of Cowboy Mouth, and lead guitarist Stephen Turner. Other members include twin brothers John and Joe Bourgeois, drummer and bassist respectively.
They’re currently recording their new album Don’t Be Afraid of Rock and Roll Vol. 1, and have been named one of PASTE magazine’s “12 Louisiana Bands You Should Listen To.”
Their anthemic, southern-rock energy combined with the stellar jazz of Irvin Mayfield and NOJO is sure to make for an innovative and fitting tribute to some truly legendary rock stars.
Doors open at 7 p.m. General Admission tickets are all standing room and cost $27.
