We’ve got an exclusive preview of a track off of clarinetist Tim Laughlin’s new CD, The Trio Collection Vol I for your listening pleasure.
The track, “Oh, Daddy Blues,” dates back to 1923, when Bessie Smith performed it with Clarence Williams on piano.
David Boeddinghaus and Hal Smith join Laughlin on piano and drums, respectively, to make up the album’s trio. Recorded on Royal Street and released on Gentilly Records, the album is a mix of songs from the early 1900s all the way up to one composed in 1950 – with the sole exception Laughlin’s own “Esplanade,” which he wrote in 1998.
