After kicking off the 35th anniversary of the house that Fess built last weekend with a doubleheader of New Orleans’ finest (Eric Lindell played Friday, Dirty Dozen and the Soul Rebels followed the next night), the folks at Tipitina’s continue the celebration this week and throughout the month with a stellar lineup of local and national talent.
The festivities carry on this Wednesday with the First Annual New Orleans Viewer’s Choice Awards, hosted By Rude Jude, with appearances by N04, Undefeated Divas, Lil Razor, Sess 45, Raw Dizzy, Frank Nitti, Platinum Girls, All Star Ladies, Cheeky Blakk, Men of Class, Baby Boyz Brass Band, Big Herk and Action Jackson. On Friday, January 11 the venue presents Re:Orientation with local faves Gravity A and friends.
Come Saturday, January 12, a variety of local players featured on HBO’s Treme share the stage for “My Lil’ Darlin’, an All-Star Review” featuring Paul Sanchez and the Rolling Road Show with special appearances by Little Freddie King, Guitar Lightnin’ Lee, Robert Parker, Frogman Henry, The Pfister Sisters and more.
Sunday brings a free Youth Music Workshop with NOLA luminaries Wendell Brunius, Johnny Vidacovich and Chris Severin followed by Tipitina’s 35th Anniversary Super Fais Do Do Feat with Bruce Daigrepont and special guest Bruce “Sunpie” Barnes.
A briefly reunited Radiators perform already sold-out dates the following Friday and Saturday — we’ve got another January 18 option, though! Then B.B. King returns to New Orleans Sunday, January 20, as do Los Lobos, who’ll present an “Acoustic En Vivo” night January 23, and singer-songwriter Keller Williams (Friday, January 25).
Speaking of milestones, The Nevilles (Art, Charles and Cyril) will mark Art’s 75th birthday January 26 with special guests, and Drive-By Truckers close the month the following night. February looks just as good, though, with shows by the Old 97’s (February 7), Galactic featuring Corey Glover (February 9 with Fishbone and 11 with Red Baraat) and Maceo Parker (February 28), among others.
Congrats to Tip’s on 35 years! Thanks for keeping the music comin’.
