Scion, Toyota’s millennial-targeted subsidiary brand, has been a big fan of New Orleans bounce via its media/marketing arm Scion A/V. Earlier this year they sponsored the EP Scion A/V Presents Big Freedia, as well as the video for Freedia’s “Y’all Get Back Now”, and a mix from DJs Rusty Lazer and Brice Nice (the mix doesn’t seem to be available any more).
Scion’s latest production is a series of webisodes following famed hip-hop producer Prince Paul (Stetsasonic, De La Soul, Gravediggaz, and many more credits) as he travels the country visiting different music scenes in the search for inspiration. His stop in New Orleans to learn about bounce takes him to a Friday night across the river at the infamous Club Ceasar’s, a chat with Rusty Lazer in front of The Music Box on Piety St., a dance showcase with Big Choo and Da Gameova Boyz dancers (you might recognize member Shelby Skipper from So You Think You Can Dance), and dinner and freestyling with Katey Red and Big Freedia (Freedia has a brand-new video out herself for a new song, “Na Who Mad”. Check it out below, and download “Na Who Mad” in return for an email address below the video).
