J. the Savage, led by Jamie Bernstein, is offering a single from their latest album Very Same Dream for free download to help along the Mardi Gras festivities. The tune, “Skippin’ at the Mardi Gras” is a zydeco-tinged romp through Fat Tuesday, complete with references to Zulu and the Mardi Gras Indians. It’s a fun song, in the vein of classic Mardi Gras tune we’ve all heard while hanging out on the neutral ground (or sidewalk side), and kicks off with a familiar second-line beat. J. the Savage play McGuire’s pub this Friday, March 4, and you can download their contribution to Mardi Gras for free—but the pre-Lenten indulgence is only available until Ash Wednesday, when the song will be taken down.
