For Deadheads the world over, August 1 through August 9–the anniversaries of Jerry Garcia’s birth and death, respectively–are known as “The Days Between,” a reference to a latter-day Grateful Dead song of the same name. With that in mind, Friday, August 5 was as good a time as any to celebrate Garcia’s legacy with a Grateful Dead tribute show at Tipitina’s.
As has been the case in previous years, the celebration was led by New Orleans supergroup the Iko Allstars during one of Tipitina’s Free Fridays shows. This year’s incarnation of the band featured Billy Iuso, Papa Mali, Reggie Scanlan, CR Gruver, Johnny Vidacovich and Michael Fouquier. ROAR was also on board to open to the night.
