Trombone Shorty has announced plans to host his first ever “Hometown Threauxdown” on Saturday, October 20, at Bold Sphere Music at Champions Square. Joining Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue on the lineup are Michael Franti & Spearhead, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Mannie Fresh, New Breed Brass Band and many more special guests to be announced later.
In conjunction with Q93 and Live Nation, Shorty intends for the new autumn festival to unite friends and neighbors in New Orleans for a day of music and celebration. The festival comes off the heels of several installments of Shorty’s “Springtime Threauxdown,” and a 29-city “Voodoo Threauxdown” tour this fall. In addition to Shorty, the event will celebrate a return home for several supporting acts.
“I really wanted to give back to the city, and do whatever I can to try to bring it together,” Shorty said. “I thought it would be great to get musicians from New Orleans on the same bill as some other friends from the road and try to keep ticket prices low so that everyone in the city can come out—almost like a reunion or a homecoming.”
The October show will be Shorty’s first performance in New Orleans since the 2018 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. Shorty says that attendees can expect a message of admiration and gratitude for the city that helped shape his identity.
“My whole purpose with the Hometown Threauxdown is to celebrate the culture, the music and the spirit of New Orleans with some friends who love it all as much as I do,” Shorty said. “And my hope is everyone can rise above our differences to try and keep the city moving forward.”
Tickets are available here and start at $29.50.
