I really want to recommend this album. “Got Ya Fire” samples “Fire on the Bayou,” the beat for “March Step” comes from the intro to “Brother John,” and it seems like New Orleans funk ought to give something up to hip-hop besides Zigaboo’s beats. But it doesn’t here. The beats are pedestrian and there’s no MC with a distinctive lyrical or vocal voice. I hope they keep at it because I like the way Bayou Riders think, but I’d like it better if that thinking produced better results.
