The Lost Bayou Ramblers will perform with former Violent Femmes front man Gordon Gano at the Voodoo Experience on Saturday, October 29, and the night before they’ll throw a single release party at d.b.a. The evening’s festivities will celebrate the release of a 12-inch vinyl single “Bastille,” a track from the band’s upcoming Mammoth Waltz. The A-side of the single features a guest appearance by Gano, while the flip is a remixed version of the same tune by GIVERS.
Mammoth Waltz already represents a dramatic departure from the traditional Cajun sound, using studio effects and electronic overlays to update the Ramblers’ punk-Cajun style, with cameos from Dr. John and actress Scarlett Johansson. But in GIVERS’ remix, those qualities are taken a couple of steps further by stripping the original mix down to a driving drum beat and piercing fiddle solo, enhanced with ethereal background choirs, a heavily reverbed bass line, and an echoing vocal treatment that gradually fades into a haze of frenzied electronica.
The Lost Bayou Ramblers’ vinyl single “Bastille” is available for purchase online.
