Ponderosa Stomp on Sale, on the Road

The 10th anniversary of The Ponderosa Stomp takes place September 16-17, and it just got cheaper for New Orleanians. While supplies last, the festival is offering discounted tickets to New Orleans residents at Euclid Records and Louisiana Music Factory starting Wednesday. Single day tickets are priced at $45, two-day tickets are $85.

The festival is an annual celebration of the history of rock ‘n’ roll, soul, R&B, rockabilly, swamp pop and more. This year’s festival will pay tribute to the great New Orleans producer Cosimo Matassa, along with Stax and Excello Records, and will include Allen Toussaint, William Bell, Big Jay McNeely, Eddie Floyd, Lady Bo, Sir Mack Rice, Lazy Lester, Dave Bartholomew, the Bo-Keys with Skip Pitts and Howard Grimes, Carol Fran, Classie Ballou, Warren Storm, the Relatives, and more.

The discounted tickets are part of the festival’s efforts to keep the event’s local flavor. “Money is tight these days, and we want to make sure New Orleans music fans can attend the show,” says Ira “Dr. Ike” Padnos, the Stomp’s producer. “The Stomp welcomes fans from all over the world, but locals are our neighbors and are very important to us.”

The Ponderosa Stomp goes on the road this weekend when it brings “She’s Got the Power: A Girl Group Explosion” to New York City’s Damrosch Park Bandshell at Lincoln Center. The show includes headliners Ronnie Spector, Lala Brooks (from the Crystals), and Lesley Gore, along with Arlene Smith (of the Chantels), Baby Washington, Barbara Harris (of the Toys), Beverly Warren, Brenda Reid and Lillian Walker (both from the Exciters), Louise Murray (of the Jaynettes), Margaret Ross (of the Cookies), Maxine Brown, Nanette Licori (of Reparata and the Delrons), and Peggy Santiglia Davison and Jiggs Sirico (both from the Angels).
