[UPDATE] At Gulf Aid, the May 16 benefit concert for those affected by the BP oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band and Mos Def debuted a new version of “It Ain’t My Fault” – seen here with subtitles. At the time, Preservation Hall creative director Ben Jaffe said the recording, which also features Lenny Kravitz and Trombone Shorty, would be on sale through iTunes May 17.
If you’ve been searching unsuccessfully at iTunes for “It Ain’t My Fault,” well, it’s not your fault if you couldn’t find it. In Keith Spera’s story in today’s Times-Picayune on the recording’s impromptu origins, he reports that the song is finally to be available online Tuesday:
But creative processes often move more quickly than legal processes. Weeks later, the various parties involved still were securing necessary clearances and lobbying iTunes to waive its percentage of sales. Meanwhile, a video of the late-night recording session at Preservation Hall circulated online.
Proceeds will go to the Gulf Restoration Foundation.
