Lil Wayne has launched his prison Web site, WeezyThanxYou.com, complete with a clock that counts down the days until his release (or is that his next release?). The site features letters from Lil Wayne, and in his first (up now), he writes:
Love. Live. Life. Proceed. Progress. That’s who I am and who I’ll always be. You see, we’re all living on borrowed time, so I’m not worried about this situation. Life happens quick. The more time you spend contemplating what you should have done…you lose valuable time planning what you can and will do. Trying to tear down the past prohibits you from building up your future. So for my time here, my physical will be confined to the yard. My love and my spirit, however, know no boundaries.
The emphasis on immediacy gives you a little insight into his creative thought processes, and I hope he stays with these letters longer than he did his Twitter account (last gem was 27 days ago – you can see it on the Web site, which links to his Twitter feed).
The comments will give haters plenty to work with as he gets love letters from fans that are almost 100 percent grammatically inaccurate and misspelled, but it’s also an insight into the nature of stardom to see the sort of passion he inspires in people who have never met him, and people from around the world at that. I fear we’d see the same sort of letters if this was a Justin Bieber fan site, but this limited context suggests that Lil Wayne has found that the key to people’s hearts might be free-association.
